The project

The project involved the construction of 500 m long linear wharf divided into 3 tranches, a return wharf and possibly an optional tranche towards the north.

The entire project was to be built partially out into the sea and was designed as sheet piles with a rear curtain wall.  The wharves and hard standing are designed to allow the construction of oil rigs and their loading onto barges.

G12 preliminary design mission

Campaign of investigations

  • 32 pressuremeter tests in the sea and on land to depths of 40 m
  • 437 pressuremeter tests and SPTs
  • 26 intact samples taken
  • Laboratory tests with 18 identifications, 2 oedometer tests, 13 shear tests

The mission included:

  • Analysis and synthesis of the geological, hydrogeological and geomechanical context of the site
  • Characteristics of the foundations to be created, reinforcement of the ground
  • Foreseeable settlement
  • Geotechnical hypotheses to be taken into account to justify the structures
  • Definition of the backfill conditions
  • Particular recommendations for the backfilling with estimation of the settlement and its duration
  • All the geotechnical information necessary to the project
