Securing and reinforcement of the Sidi Said Maachou dam

The FONDASOL teams were commissioned to carry out geotechnical engineering missions for the works on the Sidi Said Maachou dam, the first dam to be built in Morocco.

The dam went into service in 1929 and since 1952 it has served as the drinking water reservoir for the city of Casablanca.

The project

The reinforcement of the city's drinking water supply provides for an increase of the supply of drinking water to this fast-growing urban and tourist centre.

The project aims to guarantee drinking water supplies until 2030 and includes:

A production part, with a water intake at the dam, with a dewatering station, a force main and a raw water storage area, a treatment station and a treated water storage area,

A transport part, with a treated water gravity transmission main.

  • Laboratory tests on remoulded samples, comprising 130 measurements of soil aggressiveness to concrete and 98 GTR soil identification tests (water content, particle size analyses by sieving and Atterberg limits)
